As with many of Libbie Hawker's other books, I am enjoying this series, but I do have to mention that there are many spelling and grammatical errors which could put off some readers. It didn't bother me so much because the storyline really drew my attention, but I did take away one star because of it. However, there were so many intrigues going on and I just had to know what was going to happen, so I kept reading. This is the story of Rhodopis, one of only two known hetaerae mentioned by name by Herodotus, the other being Archidike, who is also in the book. From being plucked off the streets by essentially selling herself so her family wouldn't starve, to her training by her masters right hand man, Aesop...yes the very one who wrote all those lovely fables we know of today. I wasn't even aware that he existed that long ago.
Anyway we go from her training to her introduction as a hetaerae into society at the time of Pharaoh Amasis, who is none too popular, because his love of anything Greek is brewing tension in Memphis. Too many Egyptians feel that the Greek people and culture is doing away with their identity as a people. So it is in this time that Rhodopis finds herself, at the center of a crisis that is about to boil over. That is all I will say about it, because I don't want to give anything else away.
Book three is supposed to be released this fall, so I am looking forward to the conclusion of her story.
Recommended (if you can overlook the grammatical errors). This review is for both books currently in the series, The White Lotus and Persian Gold.

Persian Rose A Novel of Egypt Fall White Lotus Book 2 edition by Libbie Hawker Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Really enjoyed the 1st two books but as this one went on there were so many grammatical errors it became overly annoying. Dear author, find another proofreader, someone is letting you down.
Book goes as expected, no suspense, no buildup. Jumps right in where the first one left off. Very matter of fact writing, would have liked more tone. Also the girl has like r names now, calling her Doricha only and whatever her new name is to Everyone else would have been better. Also the ending to this one sucked. What happened ed to Aesop and Iadamon? No clue.
Always enjoy Libbie Hawhers stories, and especially series. The research she does and her ability to bring everything to life is just fantastic. You really get feel like you know the characters personally and anxiously wait for follow up stories on series. I haven't found a bad book or series by her yet.
If you read the first book you have to read the second and on to the third it will take you by surprise every turn of the page. This is a great set of books to own , I can see my self rereading time after time it is so well written and so full of surprises.
Love the series and author, but two things distract from the storyline 1) Use of the word 'reckon' as though the heroine were a hillbilly and 2) Desperate need of an editor.
As with all of Libbie Hawkers books, it is difficult to remember they are fiction. You have to read the series when she writes them in a series though, or you lose the story. I couldn't stand not knowing how the plits will twist anyway. There is a third book in this trilogy not out yet. I almost wish none had been released until all were available. I like to go from one book dire ctly to the next and not lose my conne ction of characters and story line, diminishing with release time. Highly, highly recommend otherwise.
As others have said, the story itself is really intriguing, but I was so distracted by the grammatical errors that it marred my enjoyment of the book. Additionally, there were inconsistencies between the first book and this one, which your proofreader should have caught - for instance the price paid for Doricha - was it 200 hedj (as mentioned in the first book) or 2000 hedj (as mentioned in this one)? A bit of attention to detail would help here.
But as I said, the story is an interesting one, and brings to life a period in Egyptian history I have never read about. I'm enjoying the series very much, but I hope by the next book that editing mistakes will have been resolved.
